In contrast to the Equal Treatment of Covered Bonds Act introduced earlier in Congressional term by U.S. Reps. Scott Garrett and Paul E. Kanjorski — which was only four pages long — the covered bonds amendment offered November 18 by Rep. Garrett to the Financial Stability Improvement Act of 2008 spans 24 pages and would establish far more detailed provisions. (Garrett thereafter withdrew the amendment pending a promised hearing on the covered bonds issue.)
